With only two members on board, the GBR Music department was established in 2009 at the very first GBR session in Sandton, Johannesburg (RSA). Even though the journey was not an easy one, through the Grace of the Almighty God we have seen enormous growth and favour no mortal man can explain. The department has since grown in leaps and bounds, attracting many talented young people from different walks of life. The team now comprises of a mixed breed of artists and technical experts.  Our music is a blend of worship, psalms and hymns in honour of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are driven by the three main values expanded below:

The Primacy of Worship

When we study the bible we discover that there are many acts or expressions of worship, but they do not define what true worship really is. There are numerous definitions of the word worship. Yet, one in particular encapsulates the priority we should give to worship as a spiritual discipline: Worship is to honour with extravagant love and extreme submission(Webster’s Dictionary,1828). True worship, in other words, is defined by the priority we place on who God is in our lives and where God is on our list of priorities. True worship is a matter of the heart expressed through a life of continuous sacrifice. We express the love for God through song, psalms and exhortations.

The Person We Worship

We worship the Lord God who founded the earth upon the seas. He is the one that created all things by His Word. The Lord God is the source of all existence. Because He is Holy, we revere him even in Worship. Worshipping God “in spirit” means with reverence, attentiveness, and having the right purpose of honouring God, while understanding what we are doing. Hebrews 12:28-29 says, “Let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.” Our worship must glorify God. 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

The Promise of Worship

We hold true to the promise of the scriptures that, when He appears we shall be like Him!, Psalms 96:13 declares, “Let all creation rejoice before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.” In other words, when we worship our God, he will inspect our hearts first; the other benefits that we tend to expect because we lift up our feeble hands and shout with our weak voices are worthless if our hearts are not right with God.

Nkosi Sihlangene is an old iculo (hymn), that has been sung by many generations of Christians of different denominations. GBR has adopted this timeless hymn to be its official global anthem. It was thus translated into different languages including English, French and Portuguese, and is today sung in many nations across the world.

As the first project of GBR Worship, we saw it befitting that we dedicate this first album to the same spirit of the song, calling upon the peoples of God from all nations, to gather in his solemn assembly. We are convicted that this particular song is a prayer, and because we put the Lord first in all that we do, we trust it to change millions of lives of people around the world. We also hold true, that this song will be sung in different languages, in many nations around the world
